Ask a Librarian IM and email is virtual communication, but the same good manners used in face-to-face interactions should be utilized. Please observe the following:
Please be patient while waiting for a librarian to respond to you. If the librarian on duty is involved in answering a question from another user, it might take a few minutes before she or he is able to respond to your question. If you are in a hurry, please let the librarian on duty know what your time frame is.
Harrassment of other people will not be tolerated. Emoted or written violence and obscenities are considered inappropriate.
The UF Libraries' and the University's computer rules and codes of conduct also apply in the Ask a Librarian services.
For more information, we suggest that you read Internet Users Rely Upon Netiquette. Violation of the above policies may result in expulsion from Ask a Librarian.
The State of Florida Ask A Librarian network has additional rules of conduct on their policies and procedures page. These policies apply to our library staff and library users, as members of the network.
